The majority of Iowa homeowners want to age in place, but when home is not accessible, this quickly becomes a health and safety issue. For one of our Helping Hands homeowners, living on her century farm in a home designed with no accessibility features was becoming more dangerous, but affording the repairs on social security income alone was impossible. Thanks to our partnership with Oaknoll Retirement Residence along with funding from the Housing Trust Fund of Johnson County, we are able to not only address the accessibility barriers, we will also carry out critical home repairs. This extensive work includes installation of a walk-in shower, grab bars, and a wheelchair ramp in addition to repairs to the roof.

Many of our neighbors are in need of affordable home repairs so they can age safely in their homes. Consider a donation to support Helping Hands.

We are thrilled to announce we are kicking off construction of the Mary Mascher Women Build home on August 17! Build a home with our future homeowner, Nicole! A mother of two incredible kids, Alex and Mileena, Nicole looks forward to putting down roots in our community for decades to come. Shifts take place most Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays and you can register for any available times here. Do you have a group that wants to reserve a build day?
